On the day they revealed their new sponsor, the AG Insurance Memorial Van Damme announced on Tuesday (25) that pole vault world record-holder Renaud Lavillenie will compete in Brussels at the IAAF Diamond League final on 5 September.

Earlier this month, Lavillenie broke the long-standing pole vault world record in Donetsk with 6.16m, improving by one centimetre the mark set 21 years ago by the legendary Sergey Bubka.

At last year’s Memorial Van Damme in Brussels, Lavillenie broke another of Bubka’s marks as he improved the Ukrainian’s meeting record with 5.96m. After finishing second in 2010 and 2011, it was Lavillenie’s first victory in the Belgian capital.

Organisers also confirmed that this year the men’s 10,000m returns to the Memorial Van Damme programme. The current world record of 26:17.53, held by Kenenise Bekele, was set at this meeting, along with 18 of the 30 fastest performances in history over the distance.
