World champion Christina Schwanitz will headline the women's shot put when the event finally makes its debut at the Indoor Meeting Karlsruhe on 4 February, the third stop of the 2017 IAAF World Indoor Tour.

Schwanitz produced a banner year in 2015, winning 15 of her 17 competitions and improving her lifetime best to 20.77m at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Beijing. She returned to the Chinese capital three months later to collect the world title before ending the season as the Diamond Race winner. She was later honoured for her achievements when named the German Sportswoman of the Year for 2015.

In July, Schwanitz successfully defended her European title in Amsterdam but finished a somewhat disappointed sixth at the Olympic Games in Rio, a showing the 30-year-old is eager to put behind her with a strong start to her 2017 indoor campaign.

"After 33 years it was simply time to bring one of the most internationally successful disciplines of German athletics to Karlsruhe," said meeting director Alain Blondel. "With Christina Schwanitz, the spectators will be able to see and experience one of the greatest personalities of German sports."

The men’s 60m hurdles, 1500m, long jump and high jump, plus the women’s 60m, 800m, 3000m, pole vault and shot put will be the World Indoor Tour scoring events in Karlsruhe.
