Cold weather (9C), strong wind and heavy rain did not hold back Ukrainians Ivan Babaryka and Tatyana Vernigor from burning off their respective opponents in the men's and women's fields and so taking victories at XXVII Moscow International Peace Marathon in 2:20:34 and 2:50:42.

The course records are Yakov Tolstikov (2:10:48 - 1984) and Ukrainian Yelena Semyonova (2:33:16 – 1991).

Ivan Babaryka broke away gradually from the 32km point to secure his win in the men’s race, while in the women’s race Yelena Marsova, 22, led the leading pack until at the 12th km when Vernigor made a bold move to the front, gradually accelerating and leaving the rest behind to secure her win.
