Spotakova again Czech Athlete of the Year

Barbora Špotáková was named Czech Athlete of the Year for the third consecutive year at a ceremony on Saturday (7).

In the Czech Federation’s annual poll, the reigning Olympic champion and World record holder received 1274 points out of a possible 1280. The 28-year-old followed up her 2007 World title with a silver medal finish at the World championships in Berlin, and also finished second at the World Athletics Final in Thessaloniki and at the European Team Championships in Leiria.

Petr Svoboda, the national record holder in the 60m and 110m Hurdles, finished second in the poll. After a bronze medal-winning performance at the European Indoor Championships, the 25-year-old finished sixth at the World championships where he was the first Czech athlete to ever reach the final in the event.

High jumper Jaroslav Bába, the reigning Olympic and World indoor bronze medallist, was third in the poll. Bába was fifth in Berlin and second in the World Athletics Final.
