Ethiopia's three-time Olympic Champion Tirunesh Dibaba will race over Two Miles at the 2013 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 2, an IAAF Indoor Permit meeting, organisers announced on Friday (18).

“I’m looking forward to launching my 2013 season in one of my  favourite cities,” said Dibaba, one of the most-decorated female athletes in the history of the sport.  The World indoor best for Two Miles is held by Dibaba’s compatriot and rival Meseret Defar, who ran 9:06.26 in 2009.

Now 27, Dibaba has become a familiar sight at the Boston meeting over the years, the Ethiopian superstar began her comeback from long-term injury here last year a campaign that culminated in her winning two Olympic medals in London – gold at 10000m and then bronze at 5000m – to add to the two victories she achieved at those distances in Beijing four years earlier.

The versatile distance star has also earned a total of eight senior World  titles on the track and at cross country. She currently owns the outdoor 5000m World record.

The meeting organisers also announced that 2011 IAAF World Championships 1500m bronze medallist Matthew Centrowitz will run in the Mile.

The American followed up that breakthrough performance with a fourth-place finish in the London 2012 Olympic Games final, missing another place on the podium by just 0.04.

Dibaba and Centrowitz will join previously announced Olympic medallists Aries Merritt, Jenn Suhr, Galen Rupp and Dejen Gebremeskel in Boston.
