Olympic gold medallists Allan Wells and Eric Liddell are set to be the inaugural inductees to the Scottish Athletics Hall of Fame which receives its official launch at next weekend’s Sunday Mail Scottish Senior Championships & Commonwealth Trials at Scotstoun Stadium, Glasgow.

Wells, the 1980 Olympic 100m gold medallist, will be there in person to accept the award, as will Patricia Russell, the daughter of Liddell whose triumph in the 400m at the 1924 Olympic Games was an inspiration behind the Oscar-winning film “Chariots of Fire”.

The legendary duo were nominated by a specially-appointed panel consisting of Andy Vince, Joan Watt and Bill Walker of scottishathletics, Mark Hollinshead, Managing Director of Sunday Mail and an on-line poll conducted via www.scottishathletics.org.uk
