SemiFinals

Juliet Campbell, the Jamaican Olympian and part-time model, scorched to the fastest time in the world this year - 22.72 - to set herself up for tomorrow's final. Campbell's margin of superiority over LaTasha Jenkins was emphatic, with the American two metres down with 23.03.

In the second race, Slovenia's Alenka Bikar, who sports a crystal tattoo on her stomach, sped into an early lead, made up the stagger on the Sri-Lankan Susanthika Jayasinghe by halfway, only for the Asian record holder to fight back and win the race in 23.04. The Slovenian set a season's best of 23.27.

The final semi was tightly contested, with Muriel Hurtis (FRA) and Natalya Vinogradova-Safronnikova (BLR) battling for the lead down the final straight. The Belarussian prevailed in the dip finish - 23.02 to 23.06 - and set a new national record into the bargain.

As in the first round, the inside two lanes were not used, which was why there were three semi-finals of four runners. For the final, all six lanes will be used.
