The Italian Championships took place in Pescara’s Stadio Adriatico this weekend and despite the absence of big names such as Fiona May and Fabrizio Mori, who will be competing on Wednesday in the IAAF Golden Gala in Rome, some respectable performances were achieved.

Loris Paoluzzi accomplished the best result of the competition, throwing the hammer 80.98, the second best Italian performance of all time and third best in the world this year.

Margaret Macchiut clocked 13.21 to win the 100m hurdles with the third best Italian performance of all time. Andrea Giaconi won the 110m hurdles with 13.72 and Diego Fortuna threw the discus 64.00. Manuela Levorato and Andrea Colombo clocked 11.50 and 10.45 respectively into headwinds to win the 100m races. Italian star Antonella Bevilacqua was defeated in the high jump by youngster Daniela Galeotti, who cleared 1.92.

In the 400m hurdles, Laurent Ottoz took victory by clocking 49.56 while Andrea Longo won a tactical 800m race in 1:46.58 ahead of Davide Cadoni.
