World class hammer result at Italian
Championships
The Italian Championships took place in Pescaras Stadio Adriatico this weekend and
despite the absence of big names such as Fiona May and Fabrizio Mori, who will be
competing on Wednesday in the IAAF Golden Gala in Rome, some respectable performances were
achieved.
Loris Paoluzzi accomplished the best result of the competition, throwing the hammer 80.98,
the second best Italian performance of all time and third best in the world this year.
Margaret Macchiut clocked 13.21 to win the 100m hurdles with the third best Italian
performance of all time. Andrea Giaconi won the 110m hurdles with 13.72 and Diego Fortuna
threw the discus 64.00. Manuela Levorato and Andrea Colombo clocked 11.50 and 10.45
respectively into headwinds to win the 100m races. Italian star Antonella Bevilacqua was
defeated in the high jump by youngster Daniela Galeotti, who cleared 1.92.
In the 400m hurdles, Laurent Ottoz took victory by clocking 49.56 while Andrea Longo won a
tactical 800m race in 1:46.58 ahead of Davide Cadoni. In the triple jump, Paolo Camossi
achieved 16.68 while Maurizio Checcucci and Danielle Perpoli clocked 20.84 and 23.46
respectively to win the 200m races.
