Eight athletes will represent Australia at the IAAF World Indoor Championships Portland 2016 on 17-20 March.

The team includes world silver medallist Fabrice Lapierre, who won the world indoor long jump title in 2010.

Alana Boyd, who recently set an Australian pole vault record of 4.77m, and distance runner Collis Birmingham are the only other team members to have previously competed at the World Indoor Championships.

“The IAAF World Indoor Championships provides a great opportunity for athletes ahead of the Olympic Games,” said Dion Russell, Athletics Australia chairman of selectors. “It’s a strong squad that we should be proud of.”
