World Marathon champion Luke Kibet will run the 36th edition of the PWN Egmond Half Marathon on Sunday 13 January. The 24-year-old Kenyan will meet strong opposition with Jon Brown, the Canadian who finished twice fourth in an Olympic marathon.

The participation of Mulugeta Wami in the men’s race will be of particular interest given his family athletics history. His more famous sister Gete Wami was second in the 35th edition of the event, in which she was beaten after a thrilling sprint by Dutchwoman Hilda Kibet.

The Dutch crowd will be able to cheer on for Michel Butter, the local favourite. Other Dutchmen are: Luc Krotwaar, Greg van Hest, Hugo van de Broek, Sander Schutgens and Patrick Stitzinger.

Hilda Kibet will try to replicate her victory from 2007. Her most important opponents are coming from Ethiopia and Romania. Dutch starters are Selma Borst, Merel de Knegt and Nadja Wijenberg.

In total 12,500 runners will start in this race which in the first half follows the beach along the North Sea. The second half covers paths through the dunes.
