The IAAF has made three key senior management hires as the international federation ends a strong year for the sport.
Four major championships in 2017 culminated with a World Championship in London, which recorded the greatest number of athletes, the highest level of performances and largest stadium audiences ever seen across the event’s 16 editions.
An Dang Duy joined as Chief Information Officer (CIO) in late October. An’s vast international experience in the technology field has been gained through two decades of IT Management in global companies Kantar Media WPP Group, TNS Media Intelligence and TNS UK. His most recent responsibilities included the reorganisation and management of software and operational teams of hundreds of people across an international group specialising in the measurement of broadcast and digital media distributed across three continents. An will lead an IT team responsible for the management of the competition results technology workflow, data management and software that provide access to the sport for millions of people around the world
He and his team will also be creating and managing the IT demands of the new world rankings system and a new e-learning portal.
Vineesh Kochhar joins as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Vineesh is a highly qualified and experienced Fortune 500 CFO, who throughout the course of his career has worked in every aspect of finance and business across a variety of industries and in both structured multinationals and start-up companies. Vineesh joined this month from Fidelity information Services (FIS) based in New Delhi, India where he was Asia Pacific CFO with responsibility across the region. Having worked in London, Moscow and Boston, Vineesh brings together the discipline of corporate financial management with extensive global experience. In addition to the finance function, Vineesh will also oversee other centralised functions across the IAAF: travel, heritage and a new, revamped services function.
The final appointment, joining in March 2018, is Harald Müller as Development Director responsible for managing the development and education resources and programmes across the sport working with the 214 Member Federations. Harald worked within the IAAF from 2004-2006 as Manager for Education. Over the past 10 years he has held the position of Director of Education and Standards at the International Equestrian Federation (FEI). Harald was responsible for managing education for about 9,000 FEI officials and 30,000 FEI registered athletes including the development of an e-learning platform, smartphone applications, tool kits for anti-doping education and a handbook on environmental sustainability for event organisers.
Commenting on the appointments, IAAF President Sebastian Coe said: “We have been focused on hiring exceptional people with global experience to take the sport and federation into a new growth period. The reforms that have been put in place give the federation and its members, athletes and partners the confidence to move ahead with the changes we need to make in many areas of the sport. These individuals join a first-class senior management team, reporting to the CEO, Olivier Gers, that is able to deliver professional discipline and rigour that will help us evolve and grow the sport. 2018 will be another great year for athletics and we hope that all our athletes, supporters and fans join us on our journey and at our events.”
