WCH Oregon22 launches Making Tracks, a Youth Engagement Program

The local organizing committee for the World Athletics Championships Oregon22 has launched “Making Tracks”, its free youth engagement program.

Making Tracks is a program developed for K-12 students that invites all youth to be a part of the history, cultural diversity, global unity, and excitement of the world coming to Oregon for the World Athletics Championships.

“It is incredibly important to us to use the platform of this event to connect and engage with youth across Oregon and the United States, and even throughout the world,” said Alexandra Rudd, Youth Program and Community Engagement General Manager for WCH Oregon22. “Through Making Tracks, our goal is to inspire a younger generation, and to showcase the many ways sport can have meaning and impact on both individuals and communities.”

The Making Tracks website features a collection of informative resources, lesson plan ideas, and activities that explore the WCH Oregon22 through a variety of subject areas. It is designed for use by youth educators, youth program leaders, coaches, and families. The platform will continue to release new activities over the lead-up to the event, including opportunities for youth to connect with live activations taking place during the 10-day event window.

“As an educator and coach involved in the creation of Making Tracks content, I am so excited to see this program launch and to use these resources in my own classroom and with my team,” said Peter Stice, a local schoolteacher. “It is special to have such an inviting space for youth of varied interests and passions to connect to these World Athletics Championships.”

Completion of a simple registration form is all that is needed to access all materials for free and to receive email updates about new additions and opportunities. Educators are invited to delve into the collection of content available now, and to get set for additional content, community challenges, contests, and a calendar of in-person youth activations coming in 2022.

Program materials can be accessed here.

WCH Oregon22 will be taking place July 15–24, 2022. General event information can be found here
