The boys’ 100m/200m sprint double has only been completed once in the history of the championships, but Japan’s rising star Abdul Hakim Sani Brown will fancy his chance of emulating Great Britain’s Harry Aikines-Aryeetey who achieved the feat 10 years ago in Marrakech.

Sani Brown, the quickest boy in the field over 100m, is also the swiftest over 200m with a 20.56 clocking, and he boasts four of the six fastest under-18 times in the world this year.

South Africa has the three next quickest men in the world lists and their selections Tlotliso Gift Leotlela (20.63) and Kyle Appel (20.73) must be consideredstrong medal contenders.

Trinidad’s Akanni Hislop has good international pedigree having placed fourth in the 200m final at last year’s Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, and with a season’s best of 20.91 he is another to be respected.

Jamaica’s Xavior Angus (21.08) will be seeking his country’s fourth success in this event and watch out too for Brazil’s Derick Silva (20.92) and Great Britain’s Cameron Tindle (20.94).
