About 90 senior men and 50 senior women will be on the start line for the second WMRA Grand Prix race on 21 July at Arco di Trento, Italy.

The Italian team comes fresh from the European Championships in Borovets, Bulgaria, where they won seven medals in total. Virtually all team members from that event will be in Arco di Trento, including Bernard Dematteis, Valentina Belotti, Elisa Desco, Alex Baldaccini and Michele Vaia.

Other continents will be represented too as Eritrea’s three-time World mountain running silver medallist Teklay Weldemariam Azeria is entered alongside athletes from Japan.

Aside from the strong Italian home team, other top Europeans include Slovenia’s Kosovelj Mitja, Lucjia Krkoc and Andreja Godec, and Britain’s Matthew Hobbs and Emma Clayton.

In 2010, the year of the first edition, the local organising committee surprised everyone by opening a new route for mountain running.

The course begins in the city centre of Arco di Trento, setting off on a breath-taking climb, and then to the Castle on the Rock on Mount Colodri, before returning to the avenue Segantini.

The Italian athletics federation, FIDAL, will also be present as they are bidding for Arco di Trento to host the 2016 European Mountain Running Championships 2016.
