World junior leader Mustafa Amer Ahmed of Egypt wants to become the first African athlete to win a global junior title in the shot put. The 18-year-old threw a national junior record of 21.79m earlier this year to win the Arab junior title.

Polish junior record-holder Konrad Bukowiecki, two years younger than Ahmed, shares similar gold medal ambitions. After finishing fifth at last year’s World Youth Championships, the 17-year-old has improved with almost every competition, recently throwing a PB of 21.39m.

Braheme Days wants to put back the US on top of the global junior stage as Adam Nelson did 20 years ago.

Germany’s world youth champion Patrick Muller and his runner-up Henning Prufer want to replicate the same success in Eugene.
