New season world best discus throw for Riedel

German Olympic discus champion Lars Riedel registered the best discus performance of the year recording 69.18m at the athletics meeting here on Saturday.

The four-times World champion surpassed the previous season's best of 69.05m set on 26 May in Salinas by John Godina (USA).

Other significant performances in the same meeting: James Beckford (JAM) beat Ivan Pedroso of Cuba by 11cm, to win the men's long jump with a leap of 8.39m; Constantin Katsioudis GRE) threw 88.82 to win the javelin competition and Joey Woody (USA) won the 400m hurdles with 48.47. Astrid Kumbernuss won the women's shot put with 19.13m.
