Lisbon Marathon: Victory for Larbi Zéroual and Judith Nagy

28 November 1999 – Lisbon – France’s Larbi Zéroual, in the men’s race and Hungarian Judith Nagy, in the women’s race, were the easy victors of the 14th edition of the Lisbon Marathon which took place on Sunday.

The Frenchman, who is of Moroccan descent, won his race in 2:12.20, almost seven minutes ahead of Kenya’s Phillip Kipketer (2:19:9).

Judith Nagy, who ran the distance in 2:32.22, crossed the finish line with more than six minutes separating her from runner up Fatima Silva (2:38:47.) of Portugal.

La Rochelle Marathon: Russia’s Krestianinov Triumphant

28 November 1999 – La Rochelle – Russian Alexandre Krestianinov was the winner of the 9th edition of the La Rochelle Marathon, Sunday, with 2:15.45, ahead of Ukraine’s Victor Rogovoy and France’s Français Bertrand Istweire, French champion of the marathon distance in 1998.

The Russian missed setting a new course record by only one second, which is currently held by the Ukranian Rogovoy, and led the race practically from start to finish leaving the other participants of the race after the first kilometre.

As for the women, the race was won by France’s Evelyne Murat, a member of the French Marathon and Mountain racing team.

Florence Marathon: Victory for Italian Michele Gamba

28 November 19999 – Florence – Italy’s Michele Gamba was the winner of the 16th edition of the Florence Marathon, which took place Sunday on the streets of the Tuscan city.

The 27 year old policeman, covered the distance in 2:11.51, bettering the course record held by Brazilian Watier Clair (2:14:02.in 1994). Gamba was a clear winner, beating his compatriot Fabio Rinaldi by almost six minutes (2:17:01.).

Although he started the race at a careful pace, Gamba left the pack around the 15-kilometre point to go alone.
