The event has provided some of the biggest highlights of this year's IAAF Diamond League circuit and with the main protagonists all in action in Ostrava, more fireworks can be expected.

Abderrahman Samba of Qatar became the second fastest man ever with his 46.98 in Paris. He has been unbeaten this season in eight finals, all of them under 48 seconds, including six IAAF Diamond League races and the Asian Games.

The challenge to Samba's dominance may come from world champion Karsten Warholm, who has set four Norwegian records this year, improving to 47.64 in winning the European Championships final.

Kyron McMaster from British Virgin Islands has run even faster than Warholm with 47.54 in Paris and has three international titles to his name this year: the Commonwealth Games, Central American and Caribbean Games and NACAC Championships. He comes to Ostrava fresh off another major win in the IAAF Diamond League final, where he finished just ahead of Warholm.

Yasmani Copello of Turkey is the fourth sub-48-second man in the field with 47.81, which gave him silver at the European Championships. His collection also includes silver from last year's World Championships and bronze from the 2016 Olympic Games.

The African challenge will be led by Abdelmalik Lahoulou of Algeria, who recently improved his best to 48.47 in winning the African title. The second Americas representative, Annsert White of Jamaica, finished second to McMaster at both the CAC Games and NACAC Championships and has a best of 48.50 this season.
