Another decathlon event, another season’s best for Kevin Mayer.

Following a big PB in the 100m and a season’s best in the long jump, Olympic silver medallist Kevin Mayer produced his best throw of the year in the shot put, 15.72m, to extend his overall lead.

Rico Freimuth’s 14.85m may not have been one of the top throws of the day, but the German is still performing well and is on course for a podium finish. His chances appear to be improving, too, as world silver medallist Damian Warner was once again some way down on his best. The Canadian managed 13.45m, slipping from second to sixth overall.

Grenada’s Lindon Victor produced the best shot put mark of the day with 15.86m, boosting his chances of a medal and moving from 21st to 10th overall, just one place behind his older brother Kurt Felix, who threw 15.01m.

USA’s two-time world champion Trey Hardee also moved up the leader board to third after throwing 15.16m.

Kai Kazmirek and Ilya Shkurenev were both shy of 14 metres, throwing 13.78m and 13.48m respectively, but their marks are enough to keep them in medal contention.
