The 2021 World Mountain Running Association World Cup series will feature 16 races spread across eight countries with events taking place in USA, Poland, Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, France and Austria.

Some of the world’s most prestigious mountain races, including Switzerland’s Sierre-Zinal and Austria’s Grossglockner, once again form part of the series, while there are also some new additions to this year’s World Cup calendar. La Monte'e du Nid d'Aigle, held under the shadow of the French Alps, and two races in Poland’s Tatra mountain range are among the races that will make their WMRA World Cup debut.

Italy has more competitions than ever before, including the series finale in Chiavenna on 10 October. The World Cup will also travel to Spain for the first time in 2021 with two venues and four races.

Following the cancellation of the 2020 WMRA World Cup due to the coronavirus pandemic, the WMRA will work closely with the organisers of each competition to try to ensure top-level racing opportunities for the world’s best mountain runners.

WMRA has decided to continue the format of offering three race categories with category champions as well as overall World Cup champions that was proposed in 2020.

There are 12 event locations in eight countries with 16 races across the three categories. There are three vertical up races, seven classic mountain races and six long mountain races that offer an incredible variety of terrain and landscapes.

The World Cup points rules have been modified to take account of the number of races on offer. The races are all open for every runner to participate and join in the World Cup competition.
