| Australia's Cathy Freeman regained the World Championship title she had already taken in Athens '97. She ran in lane 5 having Germany's Grit Breueras a reference, and clocked 49.67, the second best performance in this year's world lists. Germany's Anja Rucker was second with 49.74, a new personal best. The bronze medal was taken by Jamaica's Lorraine Graham with 49.92, overpassing 1999 world leader, Falilat Ogunkoya (NGR) in the last few metres. As it happened already in 1997 final, the three medalists were the only athletes to mark below 50 seconds. The current world indoor champion, and twice European champion, Grit Breuer (GER), made a disappointing race and finished the seventh with 50.67. |

La australiana Cathy Freeman reedito su
titulo mundial de Atenas. Corrio por la calle 5 con la alemana Breuer como referencia,
registrando 49.67 en meta (segunda mejor marca mundial de la temporada). Segunda la
alemana Anja Rucker con 49.74, rebajando su tope personal. El bronce se lo llevo la
jamaicana Lorraine Graham (49.92) tras rebasar en los ultimos metros a la lider del
ranking mundial 99, la nigeriana Falilat Ogunkoya. Al igual que en la final del 97, las
tres primeras fueron la unicas en bajar de la barrera de los 50 segundos. Decepciono la
dos veces campeona europea y actual campeona mundial en pista cubierta Grit Breuer que
acabo septima en 50.67.  |
