This was a competition decided in the very first round. Tsiamita of Greece imposed herself on the rest of the field with an impressive 14.88 effort. She had jumped 15.07m in qualification and so was clearly on good form in Seville. Kasparkova (CZE)the defending champion, was also in reasonable form and produced 14.54 in the same round. The second round saw a reply by the Cuban Aldama who leapt 14.61m and Prandzheva (BUL)15.54m to keep the medals open. Lebedeva (RUS) showed she was also not to be forgotten, leaping 14.55 with her third effort. At the end of the third round Ashia Hansen the world indoor recordholder was eliminated. The fourth and fifth rounds were uneventful except for the Greek Vasdeki who produced 14.61 to equal the mark of second placer,Aldama, and take the third position. The competition was decided, the places did not change in the final round. the defending champion Kaspakova ended in sixth and the gold was Tsiamita's.
