A new addition to the IAAF Continental Cup, the mixed 4x400m will bring the curtain down on proceedings on Sunday evening and if recent history is anything to go by, it should provide a captivating climax.

With teams free to select and change their running order up until race time, and able to pick any team members they wish, it’s anyone’s guess how it’ll play out.

The Americas team is likely to feature individual 400m competitors Luguelin Santos of Dominican Republic and Nathan Strother of USA who look set to team up with Jamaica’s Stephenie-Ann McPherson, USA’s Shakima Wimbley or possibly Shaunae Miller-Uibo of The Bahamas, who will contest the 200m earlier in the afternoon.

The European team will feature European 400m champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic along with Lisanne De Witte of the Netherlands along with Kevin Borlee of Belgium and European 400m champion Matthew Hudson-Smith of Britain.

The African team should feature Botswana’s Baboloki Thebe, who took the African 400m title last month in 44.81, along with runner-up Thapelo Phora of South Africa or 800m specialist Nijel Amos of Botswana. Caster Semenya of South Africa and Christine Botlogetswe of Botswana look likely to complete the team.

The Asia-Pacific team will be an all-Australian quartet, with Ella Connolly and Anneliese Rubie the two female competitors and the team completed by a selection from Murray Goodwin, Ben Offereins, Joshua Ralph or Steven Solomon.
