Wojciech Nowicki won his fourth straight competition to highlight the PTS Meeting in Samorin, Slovakia, part of the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge, on Friday (29).

The Pole, who took hammer throw bronze at last year's World Championships, controlled the proceedings from the outset, opening with a 75.53m effort in the first round and improving to 76.89m in the fourth. Throwing next, world champion Pawel Fajdek briefly put on the pressure, reaching 76.77m. But that was the best he'd manage handing Nowicki, the world leader at 81.45, the victory.

Hungary's Bence Halasz was fourth with 75.97m with Pavel Bareisha of Belarus fourth with 75.30m.

Siame holds off Volko in 100m

For the enthusiastic home crowd, the highlight came in the men's 100m. Zambian Sydney Siame won the race with a 10.06 lifetime best, followed home by quick-closing Jan Volko, who clocked 10.13 to knock 0.02 from his own Slovak national record set in the heats a last year's World Championships. Paulo André De Oliveira of Brazil was third, also credited with 10.13.

Herman improves to 12.64

There was a close contest in the women's 100m hurdles as well, with Elvira Herman of Belarus prevailing over Queen Harrison of the US, 12.64 to 12.69. It was the second personal best this month for the 21-year-old Herman, who took the 2016 world U20 title. Her best entering the season was 12.85, the European U20 record she set when she won that title in Bydgoszcz two years ago.

Elsewhere, Irishman Thomas Barr won the 400m hurdles in 49.40, a season's best for the 2016 Olympic finalist. Sha'keela Saunders of the US won the women's long jump with 6.59m. Ethiopian Mahelet Mulugeta won the women's 800m in 2:01.83 and Boaz Kiprugut led a Kenyan 1-2-3 sweep in the men's 1500m clocking 3:40.57.
