Shi Yuhao prevailed in a street athletics long jump competition in Xi’an, China, on Saturday (3).

Competing with the spectacular 14th century city wall of Xi-An as a backdrop, Yuhao, sixth in both the long and triple jumps at the IAAF World U18 Championships Cali 2015 and the Asian junior long jump record holder after jumping 8.30m to win the Chinese junior title in Ordos earlier this summer, leapt 8.02m to win the evening competition held in the ancient centre of the capital of central China's Shaanxi Province.

Eight competitors competed in the three-jump competition with Shi reaching his winning leap in the opening round.

Gao Xinglong, who was fourth at last year's world championships in Beijing, finished second with a 7.94m leap. Zhong Peifeng, this year's Asian junior champion was third at 7.88m.

The event was part of a multi-city street athletics tour organised by the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Beijing which began last year and is aiming to give a higher profile to the sport across China, as well as promote the IAAF World Challenge meeting itself.

Local youth athletes also took part in several pre-event activities while locals, fans and athletes of all ages were invited to take part in several activities at a specially-designated fan zone.
