The International Fair Play Committee (CIFP), in partnership with the IAAF, will look for moments that epitomise fair play during the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 with a view to recognising one athlete or moment at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2019 later in the year.
The <a href="http://www.fairplayinternational.org/home">CIFP</a> was established more than 50 years ago to promote the principles of fair play in sport - fair competition, respect, friendship, team spirit, equality and sport without doping. It honours those who respect the written and unwritten rules of sport, which include integrity, solidarity, tolerance, care, excellence and joy, and who set an example for others, on and off the field.
Since Willye White was first honoured with an International Fair Play Trophy in 1965, many other track and field athletes have been recognised for instances of fair play. At the IAAF World Championships alone, eight awards have been handed out since 2003.

Spanish high jumper Ruth Beitia was the latest recipient of an award. She was recognised for her efforts to console Alessia Trost of Italy after she failed to qualify for the high jump final at the IAAF World Championships London 2017. It was an emotional moment for Trost, whose mother and former coach had passed away earlier that year.
Two athletes were also recognised for their actions at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. USA&rsquo;s Abbey D&rsquo;Agostino and New Zealand&rsquo;s Nikki Hamblin were the protagonists in one of the most uplifting moments of the Games. After they were both tripped in their heat of the 5000m, they put aside their personal anguish to help one another to get back on their feet. Although clearly in pain from the incident, the pair completed the race.
At this year&rsquo;s World Championships, a jury comprising members of the CIFP and IAAF will create a shortlist of five fair play moments from the championships. During the week following the championships, fans will be able to cast their votes for the shortlisted moment that they feel best exemplifies fair play. These votes will be combined with the votes from the jury to determine three finalists for the Fair Play Award. The winner will be revealed at the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on 23 November.

<h3>Fans invited to vote for fair play moment</h3>
&ldquo;Since the 2003 World Championships in Paris, CIFP and the IAAF have had a wonderful opportunity to award a special Fair Play prize for athletics,&rdquo; said CIFP President Jenő Kamuti. &ldquo;We are once again thrilled to partner with the IAAF to honour incredible acts of fair play during the World Championships, and to bring the spirit of sportsmanship to a new geography in Doha, Qatar.&rdquo;
Speaking on behalf of the IAAF, President Sebastian Coe said, &ldquo;I am absolutely delighted that the International Fair Play Committee in collaboration with the IAAF will once again honour a Fair Play Moment at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019. Athletics is proud that several of our elite athletes have been past recipients of this award - most recently at the 2017 World Championships. This latest initiative demonstrates our profound commitment towards one of the core values of our sport: competing in the spirit of Fair Play.&rdquo;

IAAF and CIFP to recognise moment of fair play from IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019

Eliud Kipchoge and Caterine Ibarguen have been named the male and female World Athletes of the Year at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, held at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Tuesday (4).
Kipchoge underlined his status as the world&rsquo;s most dominant distance runner. The 34-year-old Kenyan won the London Marathon in April in 2:04:17 to finish comfortably ahead of one of the deepest marathon fields in history.
Five months later, he won the Berlin Marathon in 2:01:39 to smash the world record. His time in the German capital was 78 seconds faster than the previous world record, representing the biggest single improvement on a men&rsquo;s marathon world record since 1967.
Not content with being the best triple jumper in the world, Ibarguen also tested herself against the world&rsquo;s best in the long jump this year &ndash; and consistently came out on top in that too.
The34-year-old Colombian won both horizontal jumps at the Central American and Caribbean Games, the IAAF Continental Cup and at the IAAF Diamond League finals &ndash; winning the latter two titles in two different cities within the space of 24 hours.
She was unbeaten in all eight of her triple jump competitions, ending the year with a world-leading mark of 14.96m in her specialist event and a national record of 6.93m in the long jump.

<h3>Male Rising Star &ndash; Armand Duplantis</h3>
Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis won the senior European title by breaking his own world U20 record three times within the competition. He went over 5.95m, 6.00m and 6.05m on his first attempts, winning with a height that has been bettered outdoors only by Sergey Bubka.
Earlier in the year he won the world U20 title in Tampere with a championship record of 5.82m and won on home soil at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, beating many of the world&rsquo;s leading senior pole vaulters.
<h3> Female Rising Star &ndash; Sydney McLaughlin</h3>
US sprinter Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world U20 400m hurdles record of 52.75. Not only was that mark the fastest time in the world this year, it also moved her into the top 10 on the world all-time list.
Undefeated in all of her races at 400m flat and the 400m hurdles, she won the US collegiate title in Eugene.
Earlier in the year she recorded the fastest ever indoor performances by an U20 athlete at 300m and 400m, clocking 36.12 and 50.36 respectively. She ended the year as the world U20 leader for the 200m indoors and outdoors, the 400m indoors and outdoors, the 400m hurdles and the 300m indoors.
<h3> IAAF President&rsquo;s Award &ndash; Andreas Brugger</h3>
A former shot putter and Swiss champion in the event back in 1955, Andreas Brugger, now 91, is best known for his tenure as meeting director of Zurich&rsquo;s iconic Weltklasse.
During his time in the role, 19 world records were set at Weltklasse and he transformed it into one of the most prestigious meetings in the world.
<h3> IAAF Coaching Achievement of the Year &ndash; Joe Vigil</h3>
In his 50-year coaching career, Joe Vigil has worked as US team coach on two Olympic teams, seven IAAF World Cross Country Championships and four Pan American Games.
Over the years he has guided the likes of Olympic silver medallist Meb Keflezighi, Olympic bronze medallist Deena Kastor and 2013 world 800m silver medallist Brenda Martinez. In total, athletes he has coached have achieved 20 medals at global championships.
<h3> IAAF Woman of the Year Award &ndash; Evelyn Claudio Lopez</h3>
Puerto Rico&rsquo;s Evelyn Claudio Lopez has dedicated her life to promoting the cause of women&rsquo;s athletics. She is Chairperson of the NACAC Women&rsquo;s Commission and General Secretary of the Association of Pan-American Athletics. She is also part of the IAAF&rsquo;s Gender Leadership Working Group and in 2013 she produced a book, Living History of Women&rsquo;s Athletics.
<h3> Athletics Photograph of the Year &ndash; Felix Sanchez Arrazola</h3>
The Spanish photographer&rsquo;s image of an exhausted and mud-splattered Selemon Barega after winning the Cross Internacional Juan Muguerza in Elgoibar was judged to be the winner from this year&rsquo;s shortlist of four photographs.

Awards week updates - day one

The attention of the athletics world will fall firmly on Monaco this week as the Mediterranean Principality prepares to host the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, the annual celebration honouring the world's best athletes whose achievements helped contribute to another unforgettable year for the sport.
Beginning on Sunday, more than 80 of the world's finest track and field athletes will begin to converge on the Riviera to help celebrate the past year during the lead-in to the IAAF Athletics Awards which will take place at the Grimaldi Forum on 4 December at 8 pm.
Some of the athletes expected include recently-minted world record holders Kevin Mayer and Eliud Kipchoge, continental champions Armand Duplantis, Nafissatou Thiam and Elijah Manangoi, and Diamond League series winners Caterine Ibarguen and Conseslus Kipruto, to name but a few.
<h3>The ceremony</h3>
While the evening will reach its climax with the announcement of the male and female Athletes of the Year, the recipients of the IAAF Rising Star Awards, Coaching Achievement Award, Women's Award and President's Award will also be revealed.
The ceremony will also name the winner of the second Athletics Photograph of the Year competition. The 25 shortlisted images will also form part of a photography exhibition which will be held alongside the IAAF Athletics Awards from 1-5 December at the Meridien Beach Plaza Hotel.
<h3>How to follow</h3>
Athletes will be taking part in a number of activities and press points with the media over the next three days, and the IAAF website will help you keep up through live blogs that will be updated throughout the day Sunday (2), Monday (3) and Tuesday (4).

<h3>215th IAAF Council Meeting</h3>
The week also includes the 215th IAAF Council Meeting which will take place on Monday (3) and Tuesday (4). The two-day meeting will focus on the day-to-day business of IAAF HQ with updates from IAAF departments, IAAF commissions, working groups and task forces. These will include the latest report from the IAAF Taskforce concerning Russia, updates on preparations for the 2019 World Championships and confirmation of the qualifying standards for those championships. Council will also announce the host of the 2023 World Championships.

IAAF Athletics Awards 2018: Ready, set, go!

With just 14 days to go until the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, the IAAF is delighted to reveal the names of the five finalists for the 2018 IAAF Male Athlete of the Year award.
The five athletes, who represent five countries from four Area associations, have illustrated excellence across nearly all athletics disciplines in 2018.
The finalists are (in alphabetical order):
Christian Coleman (USA) - World indoor record and world indoor champion at 60m - World lead and IAAF Diamond League champion at 100m
Armand Duplantis (SWE) - European champion at pole vault with a world-leading height - World U20 champion - Eight world U20 records or bests, indoors and out
Eliud Kipchoge (KEN) - London Marathon champion - Berlin Marathon champion with the biggest improvement on a men&rsquo;s marathon world record since 1967
Kevin Mayer (FRA) - World indoor champion at heptathlon - World record at decathlon
Abderrahman Samba (QAT) - World lead and unbeaten in nine finals at 400m hurdles, setting the world&rsquo;s quickest time since 1992 - Asian Games champion at 400m hurdles and 4x400m - IAAF Continental Cup winner - Asian indoor 4x400m champion
<h3>Voting procedure for 2018 World Athletes of the Year</h3>
A three-way voting process determined the finalists.
The IAAF Council and the IAAF Family cast their votes by email, while fans voted online via the IAAF's social media platforms. The IAAF Council&rsquo;s vote counted for 50% of the result, while the IAAF Family&rsquo;s votes and the public votes each counted for 25% of the final result. Voting closed on 13 November.
The male and female World Athletes of the Year will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 on 4 December in Monaco.

With just 15 days to go until the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, the IAAF is delighted to reveal the names of the five finalists for the 2018 IAAF Female Athlete of the Year award.
The five athletes, who represent five countries from four Area associations, have illustrated excellence across nearly all athletics disciplines in 2018.
The finalists are (in alphabetical order):
Dina Asher-Smith (GBR) - European champion and world leader at 100m, 200m and 4x100m - Second over 100m in the IAAF Diamond League final and IAAF Continental Cup - Commonwealth Games 4x100m gold and 200m bronze
Beatrice Chepkoech (KEN) - World steeplechase record by eight seconds, backed up by the third-quickest mark of all time - Winner of seven out of eight steeplechase finals including the IAAF Continental Cup, African Championships and IAAF Diamond League final - Commonwealth Games silver at 1500m

<h3>Voting procedure for 2018 World Athletes of the Year</h3>
A three-way voting process determined the finalists.
The IAAF Council and the IAAF Family cast their votes by email, while fans voted online via the IAAF's social media platforms. The IAAF Council&rsquo;s vote counted for 50% of the result, while the IAAF Family&rsquo;s votes and the public votes each counted for 25% of the final result. Voting closed on 12 November.
The male and female World Athletes of the Year will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 on 4 December in Monaco.
The male finalists will be announced tomorrow, Tuesday 20 November.

With just three weeks to go until the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, the IAAF is delighted to announce the five finalists for the 2018 Female Rising Star Award to recognise this year's best U20 athlete.
The winner will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 in Monaco on Tuesday 4 December.
The nominees are:
Meseret Belete (ETH) - World U20 best at half marathon with 1:07:51 - Sixth and team gold at IAAF World Half Marathon Championships Valencia 2018 - Gothenburg Half Marathon winner
Celliphine Chespol (KEN) - World U20 champion and world U20 lead at steeplechase with&nbsp;9:01.82 - African (senior) cross-country champion - Steeplechase silvers at Commonwealth Games and African Championships
Meskerem Mamo (ETH) - World U20 leads at 3000m and 5000m with&nbsp;8:33.63 and&nbsp;15:05.21 - Bronze in 5000m at African Championships
Sydney McLaughlin (USA) - Two world U20 bests or records at both 400m hurdles and indoor 400m with 52.75 and 50.36i respectively - World (senior) lead at 400m hurdles with 52.75 - US collegiate champion at 400m hurdles

With just three weeks to go until the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018, the IAAF is delighted to announce the five finalists for the 2018 Male Rising Star Award to recognise this year's best U20 athlete.

The nominees are:
Selemon Barega (ETH) - IAAF Diamond League champion at 5000m with a world U20 record of&nbsp;12:43.02, the world&rsquo;s quickest time since 2005 - World indoor silver at 3000m - Fourth at World U20 and African Championships 5000m
Jordan Diaz (CUB) - World U20 lead at triple jump with 17.41m, a world U18 best - World U20, Youth Olympic and (senior) North/Central American &amp; Caribbean champion - Central American &amp; Caribbean Games silver
Armand Duplantis (SWE) - European (senior) champion at pole vault with a world-leading height of&nbsp;6.05m, which has been bettered outdoors only by Sergey Bubka - World U20 champion - Six world U20 records, indoors and out
Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR) - European senior champion at 1500m and 5000m - World U20 lead at 1500m with&nbsp;3:31.18 - World U20 silver at 1500m and bronze at 5000m

Kevin Mayer got his year off to a great start, winning the heptathlon at the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018 with a world-leading 6348.
The French all-rounder wasn&rsquo;t quite so fortunate at the European Championships, where he recorded three fouls in the long jump to make an early exit in the decathlon. But he rebounded five weeks later at the Decastar Meeting in Talence, where he broke the world record with 9126.

Sandra Perkovic once again dominated the discus this year, winning 11 of her 13 discus competitions.
The Croatian won the European title for a record fifth time and had the seven farthest throws of the year, including a world-leading 71.38m set at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Doha.

Nafissatou Thiam went unbeaten in the heptathlon for another year. The Belgian all-round talent won in G&ouml;tzis with 6806, clearing a world heptathlon best of 2.01m in the high jump on the way to her victory.
She went on to improve her world-leading mark to 6816 to win the European title in Berlin, helped by a throw of 57.91m in the javelin.

Tomas Walsh won three big titles this year, breaking the competition record in all of them. Back in March he won at the IAAF World Indoor Championships Birmingham 2018 with 22.31m, breaking the championship record that had stood since 1987 and moving him to fourth on the world indoor all-time list.
The New Zealander won the Commonwealth title one month later, having smashed the championship record in the qualifying round with 22.45m. Later in the year he won the IAAF Diamond League final in Zurich with 22.60m, an IAAF Diamond League record. Earlier in the year he broke his own Oceanian record with 22.67m, the world&rsquo;s longest shot put since 2003.

Anita Wlodarczyk suffered two rare defeats in the hammer at the start of the year, but soon found her rhythm as the season progressed, throwing world-leading marks of 78.74m and 79.59m.
The Polish thrower won the European title in Berlin and ended the year as the IAAF Hammer Throw Challenge winner.

Voting for the Male World Athlete of the Year closes on 13 November. At the conclusion of the voting process, five men and five women finalists will be announced by the IAAF.
