The IAAF is pleased to announce the distinguished panel of experts that will select the IAAF Photograph of the Year Award for 2018.
- Anthony Edgar is the Head of Media Operations at the International Olympic Committee. Passionate about photography, he is curator of the Best of the Olympic Games photographic exhibition and was the producer of the film One Shot, Photographing the Olympic Games for the Olympic Channel.
- Bob Martin is a multi-award-winning sports photographer. During a career which has spanned 30 years, Martin has photographed every major sporting event and his work recognised with more than 60 national and international awards. In 2017 he was named Sports Photojournalist of the Year by the National Press Photographers Association. His “1-1000th” photography book won the Sportel Internationl Sports Book Award. He acted as Photo Chief for the London 2012 Olympic Games and is currently consulting with the IOC for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Martin is Director of Photography and co-founder of the agency Silverhub Media.
- Raquel Cavaco Nunes graduated in Law at Lisbon University. Alongside her work as a lawyer, she has been working in event and sports management. Nunes has taken part in six Olympic Games, including Rio 2016 where she was Venue Press and Photo Operations Manager. Nunes has been the IAAF Photo Commissioner since 2013 and a member of the IAAF Media Advisory Group since 2015.
- Dwight Phillips is an American former long jumper. He won four IAAF World Championships titles and the Olympic title in 2004. He also took gold at the 2003 World Indoor Championships. His personal best of 8.74m makes him the joint fifth best jumper of all time. Phillips is also a keen photographer.
The panel will judge the photos and select the top 25 entries. The shortlisted images will form part of a photography exhibition which will be held alongside the IAAF Athletics Awards between 1 and 5 December in Monaco.
The panel will then select the top three images from the shortlist. The finalists will be informed of their selection and invited to the IAAF Athletics Awards in Monaco on 4 December. The winner will be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards.
Any professional photographer who was officially accredited at an athletics event in 2018 is invited to enter. The deadline for entries is Wednesday 31 October.
