Vasiliy Kaptyukh’s son amongst dead in Minsk metro attack

The IAAF is deeply saddened to receive the news that amongst the 12 dead in yesterday’s terrorist outrage at a subway station in the Belarusian capital of Minsk was Roman Kaptyukh, the son of two-time World and 1996 Olympic Discus Throw bronze medallist Vasiliy Kaptyukh.

On Monday 11 April at 17:55hrs local time an unidentified device exploded in Kastrychnitskaya (Oktyabrskaya, or October) metro station killing 12 and injuring 149. Roman Kaptyukh was 21-years-old.

The IAAF joins the Belarus Athletic Federation and the National Team of Belarus in sending its sincerest sympathy and condolences to Roman’s family and friends and to all those who lost or who have had loved ones injured in the blast.
