25 February 2000 - A new World Junior Record was set today during the second day of the Australian Championships in Sydney. Melissa Rollison (born on 4 April 1983) clocked 10:10.73 in the 3000m Steeplechase. The American athlete Courtney Pugmire set the previous record of 10:23.47 on 23 June 1996, during the USA Olympic Trials in Atlanta.
Melissa Rollison had a previous best of 10:10.57 in 1999, a performance which had already bettered the previous record, but which had not been ratified due to a failure to fully satisfy record application procedures.
