Today marks the 500th day prior to the start of 11th IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan.

‘Osaka 2007’ will be hosted in and around the Nagai Stadium, Osaka, from 25 August to 2 September 2007.

To mark this occasion, a “D-500 Countdown Event” was held at Osaka Central Station today, to help celebrate the beginning of the 16-month final run into the championships and to help boost the awareness of the citizen’s of Osaka to this event, which after the Olympic Games and World Cup Football is the largest global sports event.

Leading the celebrations today were Junichi Seki, the Mayor of Osaka City, and Hiromasa Hemmi, General Secretary of Local Organising Committee for Osaka 2007, who were joined by three of Japan’s top athletes including two-time World Championship 400m Hurdles bronze medallist Dai Tamesue.
