Organisers of the FBK Games have announced that world 200m champion Dafne Schippers will compete over 100m at the IAAF World Challenge meeting in Hengelo on 11 June.
The Dutch sprinter has broken the 100m and 200m meeting records at the past two editions of the FBK Games. She won the 100m in 2015 in 10.94 and followed it with a 22.02 victory over 200m last year.
Schippers opened her 2017 season at the Florida Relays earlier this month, where she and her training partners won the 4x100m in 42.57 and the 4x200m in 1:28.77, the second-fastest time in history.
“I love competing in front of a home crowd,” said Schippers. “Everyone is so incredibly excited and that gives you a huge buzz from the moment you enter the stadium. You know they are there to see you. The fuller it is and the more noise people make, the better it is for me. It just gives me a kick.
“Everything has been going well in training,” she added. “I feel good and I’m much stronger in the weight room. It feels strange that I didn’t have an indoor season, but I’m ready to race again. This year I hope to improve my 100m PB and preferably run faster than 10.80. You have to set the bar high.”
