Isaac Kiprop, 19, will be Uganda’s lone representative at the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships, Moscow, Russia (10 – 12 March).

Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has named Kiprop following his recent performances at the national and Eastern Africa Cross Country championships which were both held at Entebbe Golf Club, and will compete indoors at the 3000m for the first time in his career when he travels to the Russian capital.

Kiprop defeated his more illustrious compatriot, Boniface Kiprop, the Olympic 10,000m fourth placer, at the national cross country a few weeks ago, and then backed-up that superb result with a victory over Tanzania’s Martin Sulle, who was an individual bronze and team gold medallist at the 2003 World Half Marathon, at last Sunday’s Eastern Africa Cross.Click here for full story

Kiprop won a team bronze medal at the 2003 World Junior Cross Country Championships where Boniface Kiprop won an individual silver medal. He is currently Uganda’s reigning 10,000m and cross country champion.

UAF’s decision to field Kiprop in Moscow comes after the country’s other stars like women’s World 3000m steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru, Boniface Kiprop, Wilson Busienei Kipkemei (World University Games gold medallist) and Moses Kipsiro, were all selected for the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia.
