Usain Bolt will run in his first Caribbean meeting outside of Jamaica for six years when the global superstar and current World Athlete of the Year competes at the second annual Cayman Invitational, on the Cayman Islands, on 8 May.

“I’m looking forward to running in Cayman on 8 May. I have not competed there before, but my coach was there last year and spoke well about the event,” said Bolt in a press release on Thursday (7).

He did not confirm which event he would be running in.

“Sprinting in the Caribbean is stronger than ever and it is great to see new track and field meets starting up.  Cydonie (Mothersill, the former international sprinter and meeting organisers) has done great things for her country on the track and is now working hard to develop opportunities for others.  I hope my presence in Cayman will inspire the youth and contribute to the development of the sport,” added Bolt.

The meeting will consist of 12 track races and two field events,  featuring over 80  athletes, and will take place at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex.

Other top names confirmed by the organisers are Bahamas’ 2010 IAAF World Indoor Championships 400m gold medallist Chris Brown and a three more top Jamaicans: 2008 Olympic Games 100m silver medallist Kerron Stewart, former Olympic and World Championships 400m Hurdles champion Melaine Walker, and London 2012 Olympic Games 110m Hurdles bronze medallist Hansle Parchment.

Local athletes who have confirmed their presence include: Kemar Hyman, Ronald Forbes, Jon Rankin, Carl and Carlos Morgan and Tyrell Cuffy.
