Asafa Powell will compete over 100 metres at the ExxonMobil Bislett Games – Samsung Diamond League on 7 June 2012, racing against Olympic champion Usain Bolt, whose participation was already announced in January.

The two Jamaicans, the former and the current World record holders for the men’s 100 metres will give the Bislett audience the chance to watch an Olympic dress rehearsal only a few weeks ahead of London 2012.

“These two Jamaicans are the best known personalities in athletics at the moment and we are very proud and excited that they are both coming to Oslo in an Olympic year,” says Meeting Director Steinar Hoen.

Asafa Powell secured the overall 100m Diamond Race last year and his season’s best of 9.78 was the second fastest time in the world. Only Bolt was faster with 9.76.

The first Samsung Diamond League meeting takes place in Doha, Qatar on 8 May. Oslo is the fifth of 14 fixtures in this the premier invitational meeting circuit in the world.
